A History of Radley College
November 12, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Radley College was founded in 1847 by William Sewell (1804-79) and Robert Corbert Singleton (1810-81). The Founders were inspired by the Oxford Movement in the Anglican Church to create a new type of school for boys based on Christian principles of brotherliness, reinforced by the beauty of the environment and of the furnishings and objects which surrounded them.
Speaker, Clare Sargent, studied Assyriology at Cambridge, learning cuneiform, Sumerian and Ancient Babylonian. She now teaches more recent material in the Classics Department and run the Archaeology Society. She came to Radley in 1995 as Head of Library and, in 2013, became Radley’s first full-time Archivist.
